Scholarships

We support, encourage, and promote higher education.

Los Barrios de Amarillo is proud to provide scholarships to students to pursue their dreams through higher education. We are able to support students pursuing career and technical certificates, associate degrees and bachelor’s degrees.


Our two-year scholarship program for students seeking an associate’s degree, trade school degree, or other certification, awards a $2,000 scholarship to be paid in $1,000 installments per year for two years.


Our four-year scholarship program for students seeking a bachelor’s degree, awards a $4,000 scholarship to be paid in $1,000 installments per year for four years.

Scholarships are reserved for students attending: 


   •    Amarillo College 
   •    Clarendon College 
   •    Eastern New Mexico University
   •    Frank Phillips College 
   •    Texas Tech University  
   •    West Texas A&M University

Interested students must meet certain criteria and requirements to be considered.  Applications are available in December of every year and the deadline to complete applications are March 1st the following year.


We provide a mentorship program to empower our recipients through a positive relationship of encouragement and accountability for a successful educational outcome.

College Lecture

Key Requirements for Initial Applicants

Preference over students who have attended Step Up to Success or Step Up 2.0, in previous years.
   All students are eligible regardless of residency status.

​Plan to attend:

  • Amarillo College

  • Clarendon College

  • Eastern New Mexico

  • Frank Phillips College

  • Texas Tech University

  • West Texas A&M University

​Please make sure you meet the following criteria and include the following documents:

  • One letter of recommendation

  • GPA of 3.0 (80)

  •  A 400-word essay (choose a topic from second page of PDF form)

  • A copy of your high school transcript

  • Your student photo

Key Requirements for Following Years

  • GPA 2.5 (77 or above) for the previous year

  • A copy of college transcript

  • Copy of your student ID number

  • Proof of enrollment of your enrollment as full-time student, (12 hours)

  • Must maintain regular contact within mentorship program (if unable to meet the requirements, please reach out to your mentor)

  • MAIL the completed form to Amarillo Wesley Community Center, 1615 S. Roberts, Amarillo, TX 79102 by March 1, 2021

  • To be considered for this scholarship, this application must be complete.

  • Once selections are made, the applicant may be contacted for an interview.

  • A Graduate Banquet may or may not take place in April depending on COVID-19 restrictions.
